Villarreal can't resist Lewandowski and co.
Villarreal have defied expectations by reaching the quarter final stage of this season’s UEFA Champions League. The Yellow Submarine shocked pundits by beating Juventus 3-0 in their own backyard in the previous round, but Bayern Munich represent an altogether tougher challenge when they come to visit the Estadio de la Cerámica on Wednesday night. Oh, Yeremi Pino!
Domestically, Unai Emery has his charges on course to match the seventh place they finished when they won passage through to the elite European competition by edging out Manchester United in the Europa League final following an epic penalty shootout. Only an improvement by at least one position in La Liga will see them compete outside Spain once again, should they not upset the odds. One of the best performers to date has been young right winger Yeremi Pino. The 19 year old has been a mainstay in the squad, and looked the part despite his tender years in the second leg against the Old Lady three weeks ago. Naturally, he’ll asked to provide some defensive support for Juan Foyth down the flank, but he should have some limited opportunities to orchestrate his own attacks. Only Alberto Moreno at the time of writing is a major injury worry.
Lewa it in
FC Hollywood haven’t had it all their own way by their own lofty standards in the Bundesliga, but following the weekend’s 4-1 thrashing of Freiburg, they now enjoy a nine-point lead with eight remaining after nearest challengers Borussia Dortmund lost to a resurgent RB Leipzig by the same scoreline. Alphonso Davies is back in training, but it’s still too early for the Canadian superstar to feature. Lucas Hernández will continue to deputise in his place, and the rest of Julian Nagelsmann’s XI pretty much picks itself. Robert Lewandowski will be on a high after guiding Poland to a World Cup berth in Qatar during the international break and will be seeking to add to his dozen goals in the Champions League.
Betting tip
Remaining resolute and compact will be the order of the day in the early exchanges for Villarreal. Few are expecting much more from them over the two legs despite their recent heroics, with Bayern Munich’s bevy of attacking talent set to make it a very uncomfortable night in the province of Castellón for the hosts. Lewandowski can be backed at 3.40 to plunder at least two goals with betway.
