Title race to heat up in Udine
Inter Milan continue their Serie A title pursuit with a trip to Udine on Sunday.
AC Milan have stuck around in the race for the Scudetto for longer than many expected, but if Inter win their remaining five matches, no one can stand in their way.
Serie A has been one of the most interesting top-flights in Europe this season, with two Milan clubs returning to their former glories to battle it out at the top of the tree.
Udinese have not been as defensively solid as they were in the last few seasons but will be a banana skin for Simone Inzaghi’s men after a trip to Bologna on Wednesday evening.
Process
Even after the departure of Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi, Inter have continued their excellence in the final third and have built a title bid off of it.
Samir Handanovic has been crucial for Inter this season and one of their most important players, in backing their title win last term.
The 37-year-old was signed from Udinese, a long while ago now, and has directly contributed to the club conceding just 26 goals from 36.5 expected goals (xG) against this season.
Combined with the club’s dynamic attacking contingent, and Juventus and Atalanta not being as strong as in recent years, Inzaghi has performed very well in his first season at San Siro.
It will be interesting to see how the former Lazio manager shuffles his pack to deal with the midweek action without a tremendous second string to call on, but still one that trumps Udinese, who are also in action against Fiorentina in midweek.
Goals?
Udinese’s leaky defence could be taken advantage of here, although they have underperformed at the back unsustainably, an outright play with a shorter goals angle is the my preferred angle into this one.
Udinese have scored in nine of ten.
Udinese have conceded in all of their last 11.
Udinese have seen both teams score in nine of ten.
Udinese have seen over 2.5 goals in six of ten.
Inter have scored in nine of ten.
Inter have conceded in four of ten.
Inter have seen both teams score in four of ten.
Inter have seen over 2.5 goals in four of ten.
Inter are bigger than I was expecting with the market, and I am happy to back them to fill their boots with the title in their grasp, given how poor Udinese have been defensively of late, with not a lot left to play for.
