Potential title decider at Senol Gunes
With only six strikes separating two teams at the top of the Super Lig, Istanbul Basaksehir travel to Trabzonspor for a heavyweight clash at Senol Gunes Stadium. The hosts are unbeaten in 2020 and come into this one off the back of an impressive 3-1 win away to Yeni Matalyaspor, the victory came despite the loss of top goal getter Alexander Sorloth to injury in the first half, the Crystal Palace loanee however has recovered to be fit for this important matchup. Sadly, due to safety concerns surrounding the coronavirus the game with be played out behind closed doors, meaning it will be a slightly less intimidating prospect for Basaksehir.
Recent form
Basaksehir are unbeaten in their last six in the league and have fallen short in two agonising title races in recent years. The same cannot be said for Trabzonspor who have not been so competitive and were last crowned champions in 1983/84. Huseyin Cimsir’s league leaders are unbeaten in 10 league outings and managed to steal a point in the reverse fixture thanks to a 96th minute equaliser from Sorloth, 2-2 it ended.
Ones to watch
The divisions two best attacks going head-to-head in this Sunday afternoon kick off. Alexander Sorloth leads the scoring this campaign with 19 goals and seven assists, three goals clear of Papiss Cisse in second. His opposite number in the game will be Cisse’s former teammate Demba Ba.
Ba, 34, has 11 goals and seven assists in all competitions, will be hoping to roll back the years in this huge encounter. An experienced campaigner now in Turkish football having enjoyed successful spells with Besiktas and Goztepe since his Premier League days. Where he scored a staggering 43 goals and contributed 11 assists in 99 appearances for West Ham United, Newcastle United and Chelsea.
Onto the playmakers, another experienced head will turn out for Black Sea Storm, 34-year-old Jose Sosa has been crucial this campaign. The classy midfielder caught the eye will an immaculate free kick last time out, giving Trabzonspor a much needed two goal cushion. The Argentinian has an impressive CV, having spent time with Bayern Munich, Napoli, Atletico Madrid and AC Milan. Both sides will be hoping their experienced players can show their best form in what could be a title deciding game.
Bosnia and Herzegovina international Edin Visca is Basaksehir’s key creator, slightly more prolific than Sosa, the 30-year-old has popped up with eight goals and 10 assists in the league and is someone Cimsir will need to prepare for, he has the ability to dictate proceedings.
Basaksehir come into this one as the underdogs and yet have more quality in their ranks, they will challenge the league leaders.
