Tension at Sassuolo with Scudetto on the line
Sassuolo have the chance to spoil AC Milan’s title charge on Sunday evening with the Black and Greens having the chance to climb into the top half of the table with a win.
Sassuolo have not hit the heights that they did under Roberto De Zerbi this term, however they certainly have the individual qualities to cause a lot of problems for the Milan backline.
The Black and Greens won the reverse fixture 3-1 at San Siro and will take a lot of confidence from that, with Gianluca Scamacca and Domenico Berardi getting on the scoresheet.
With Giacomo Raspadori and Hamed Traore, Sassuolo are very capable in the final third, it is their rearguard that Stefano Pioli will be looking to exploit in getting over the final hurdle.
Inter Milan host Sampdoria, and are very strong favourites to get the win, which would mean Milan would have to win, with Simone Inzaghi’s men having a better goal difference.
Process
There is not a lot between the two sides going forward, Sassuolo have scored 64 from 58.4 expected goals (xG) for this season, at an average of 1.58 xGF per game.
Milan are at 1.62 xGF per game, but with more on the line they will be hoping to take the pressure off a little by breaking the deadlock early.
Milan have conceded just 31 goals all season, and that is where the league title will be won if they do hold on.
There will be nerves amongst the camp, it is a relatively young side who have not won a lot of league titles before in their careers, it feels like Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s leadership from inside the dressing room will count for a lot.
Goals?
