Palmeiras to go clear at top of Brasileiro Série A
Brasileiro Série A joint leaders Palmeiras make the short journey across the metropolis to take on São Paulo at Morumbi. The visitors have gained 25 points from their opening 12 matches, losing just once and conceding only seven times. The hosts, having finished a lowly 13th last year, aren't faring much better thus far, and are down in ninth. Read our preview here:
Calleri by his name
Goalkeeping legend turned manager Rogério Ceni will be feeling the heat of the massed ranks of supporters unless things improve markedly on the pitch. Winning just once in the last six inevitably puts pressure on the head coach to win quickly, an he should at least have most of his squad to choose form. Argentinian striker Jonathan Calleri has certainly not had a poor opening to 2022, blasting in nine from 12 games whilst creative responsibility has been evenly distributed.
Don't step on Dudu
Abel Ferreira has overseen steady improvement in the Serie A since taking charge two years ago, and will hope to ally that to continued success in other competitions, including being the current holders of the Copa Libertadores. Young forward Gabriel Veron is another who is making big strides, whilst on the opposite flank, Dudu is still a potent option 11 years his senior. Centre back Gustavo Gómez already has five goals to his name, including a brace in a remarkable period towards the end of the first half in the previous encounter against Atlético Goianiense where Porco roared back from two down in the 40th minute to be leading 4-2 at the break.
Betting tip
In excellent form, Palmeiras won't take São Paulo lightly in the city derby, but should still have enough to come out on top to open up a three-point lead at the summit. betway have odds of 2.50 for an away win.
