Roma ready to spoil Lazio's top four push
It is Derby della Capitale this Saturday as Roma ‘host’ Lazio, the Eagles sitting six points behind the top four with a game in hand. Lazio ran out 3-0 winners in the reverse fixture and will all but seal Europa League qualification for next season with a win in this one. Roma travel to the newly crowned champions Inter Milan on Wednesday where Lazio host already relegated Parma, the momentum is with Simone Inzaghi’s men. The Eagles are slim favourites but Roma’s freedom with Paulo Fonseca leaving at the end of the campaign could cause an exciting affair, the hosts are two points ahead of eighth placed Sassuolo with three to go as the two of them fight for the Europa Conference League spot.
Process
It has been a frustrating campaign in both boxes that has ultimately been Paulo Fonseca’s undoing, Roma have trended as a top four all season but end up without a chance to break in there. Jose Mourinho will take over next season and he will need to improve on his recent performances at Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur to have a positive impact. As Roma look to regenerate in the post Francesco Totti and Daniele De Rossi era, a clear identity should help them, the Portuguese gaffer can provide that. They rank four for defensive process yet 11th for goals conceded, academy graduate Daniel Cerantula Fuzato has played their last two league games between the sticks as they look for a long term successor in goal. They are yet to successfully replace Juventus’ Wojciech Szczesny.
Ciro Immobile remains the main goal threat for the Eagles, he will clinch 20 league goals for the season for the fourth time in five seasons at the club with just one more in their remaining four matches. Lazio have the firepower to get the win here and put the pressure on Napoli and Juventus.
Goals?
An overs angle excites me, this will be excellent viewing for the neutral.
