Lyon to get back to winning ways
Nantes to be a real test
Lyon haven’t got off to the best of starts to their 2021/22 Ligue 1 campaign. They’re without a win in their first three games, throwing away a 3-1 lead in their last game against Clermont Foot with just ten minutes to play. A draw with Brest on the opening day was followed by a 3-0 battering at the hands of Angers before their most recent match. Nantes on the other hand have got off to a very solid start, opening with an impressive 1-1 draw away at Monaco, followed up by a 2-0 win against Metz. A disappointing 1-0 loss to Rennes last time out will see them looking to stop a slide in form with difficult fixtures against Nice and Angers after their upcoming game against Lyon.
Peter Bosz: The Failing Dutchman?
Peter Bosz took over at Lyon this summer after leaving Bayer Leverkusen, and it’s been far from the dream start for the Dutchman. But this is their chance to turn things around and get their campaign back on track. Letting that lead slip against Clermont at the weekend would’ve been disappointing, with Bosz seeing his side crumble defensively. Him and his squad will be determined to not repeat this same unwanted feat on again on Friday and have a good opportunity to kickstart their season and get Peter Bosz his first three points as Lyon manager. After narrowly avoiding the drop last season, Nantes will look to maintain their Ligue 1 status for another season. They’ll gain some confidence from Lyon’s recent poor form, but at some point, Lyon’s season will get in full swing. New signings Xherdan Shaqiri and Emerson will help their cause for this campaign, adding to talents such as Lucas Paqueta, Bruno Guimaraes and Houssem Aouar in behind frontman Moussa Dembele. On the attacking front, there should be goals galore this season for Lyon. Whether these attacking talents will be enough to cover their defensive woes on Friday remains to be seen.
Lyon’s defensive frailties an issue
Lyon are certainly low on confidence, conceding seven goals in their past three games so far. Fragilities at the back mean that they’re always susceptible to conceding a couple, but I think their attacking talents should be enough to mask these defensive vulnerabilities. Nantes will be aiming to exploit these but in turn, could leave themselves open to conceding early on.
Lyon should get their season back on track on Friday, and with a wealth of attacking talent to choose from, I can see them beating Nantes. That’s why I’m going with Lyon to win with Betway.
