Manchester United to breeze past Copenhagen
Manchester United face Copenhagen in the Europa League quarter-final on Monday as they hope to secure a trophy to add gloss to an excellent season. Can they get past the Danish underdogs? Have a read of our preview here:
The icing on the cake
United beat Leicester on the final day of the Premier League season to secure a place in the top-four. It can’t be understated what an achievement that was.
They looked well off the pace prior to lockdown but a Bruno Fernandes inspired revival took the Red Devils into the Champions League spots for 2020-21 and also gave them the financial power to offer £90m for Jadon Sancho.
They could become a real power next season with the right additions to supplement a young side growing in confidence.
We talk about it a lot, but Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial are three players United can built their attack around for the next five to ten years and they also have a core including Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James.
They also have Paul Pogba, although his future remains the subject of much speculation.
This is a fairly easy tie for United after they made light work of LASK in the previous round and they should progress without too much fuss.
FC Copenhagen can’t be taken lightly
Copenhagen are being dwarfed domestically by FC Midtjylland, but they are still a side with enough talent to cause United some concerns.
They were always second best in the Danish Superliga but have a squad packed with skilful operators and will feel they have a chance against the Premier League giants if they can keep things tight at Old Trafford.
Rasmus Falk can play wide right or behind the front men. He is creative and has great vision. Left-winger Viktor Fischer is a powerful dribbler and he is another talent to be watched carefully.
It is unlikely the Danes will be able to progress but a number of these players will be in the shop window and beating United would go a long way to helping them get a big move.
