Lyon to give Juventus a tough time
Lyon take on Italian giants Juventus on Wednesday. The Bianconeri are going all out for a European crown this season but can the French outfit put a serious spanner in their works? Have a read of our preview here:
Middle of the road
Lyon have not ripped up any trees in Ligue 1 this season. In domestic competitions, they have been bang average which is surprising given their performances in the Champions League in 2019-20.
Their most impressive display came against RB Leipzig on the road, where goals from Memphis Depay and Martin Terrier were enough to secure a 2-0 win.
Unfortunately, Depay will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury. A huge loss to Lyon given his record in the Champions League this season.
He scored in all but one of their group matches. If they are to get through to the latter stages then Moussa Dembele, the club’s top scorer in Ligue 1 with 14 goals, will have to step up in his absence.
Houssem Aouar is also taking his chance this season with a string of impressive displays. The 21-year-old already has four assists, second only to Thiago Mendes in the Lyon side, and he has generally been an excellent performer in midfield with three goals in his 21 starts.
The French side will have to be at their best, but you can’t write them off just yet.
Nothing but a win will do for Juve
Actually, Juve might accept a draw in this first leg in France, but internally they will be expecting to take the win back to Turin for the second game.
Juventus have made no secret of their desire to win the Champions League, signing Ronaldo was a huge part of thought process and he helped them get through a tricky group unbeaten.
They won all but one of their matches in Group D with Cristiano contributing with a couple of goals.
Paulo Dybala has been their key player in this season’s Champions League so far. The Argentine has netted three times, with all of those strikes proving crucial in getting wins at home against Lokomotiv Moscow and Atletico Madrid.
With a squad full of talent you have to like the Italian side’s chances of progression here, but they have fallen short in recent years and will be looking to avoid a repeat in this one.
Lyon v Juventus betting tip
This is going to be a tight game with the home side wanting to stay in the game while Juve would probably be happy to take a draw back to Turin. That’s why we are backing this one to finish with under 2.5 goals at odds of 4/5 with bet365.
