Inter rightful favourites in Rome
Lazio welcome Inter Milan to the Stadio Olimpico in their most challenging match so far in Serie A.
Both clubs have only played twice so far in the league, the hosts have picked up four points with the visitors one of three sides with a 100% record.
Maurizio Sarri’s Lazio are a way off of the elite in Italy at the moment, and their former manager Simone Inzaghi will be hoping to impress on his return to Rome.
Last season the home side won in each of the two head-to-heads, Lazio got the better of Inter to a 3-1 scoreline at home, with Ciro Immobile, Felipe Anderson and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic finding the net in the second half to turn the tide and take the three points.
Background
With just two games worth of data to look into, it is important not to read too much into the performance metrics with the quality of the opposition offering a greater insight into how well a team is playing.
Alexis Sanchez, Arturo Vidal, Stefano Sensi, Aleksandar Kolarov and Ivan Perisic have moved on from Inter this summer, however there is a major incoming that will make them confident of kicking on towards the league title.
Romelu Lukaku has arrived on loan, initially, from Chelsea to reunite with Lautaro Martinez in the final third, the pair were irresistible as Inter won the Scudetto in 2020/21, and the early signs are very positive.
There is an argument that Inter were the strongest side in Serie A last season, but Stefano Pioli was able to catch lightning in a bottle with AC Milan as they put together a very consistent end to the campaign.
Nicolo Barella and Marcelo Brozovic are also key in central midfield for the visitors, and it will be interesting to see how Matias Vecino performs for the Eagles against his old club.
Former Liverpool creative midfielder Luis Alberto is also a key contributor in the squad, but keeping the goals has been a fairly consistent problem since Sarri entered the dugout.
Lazio are yet to convince in their two performances so far, they got the better of Bologna to a 2-1 scoreline, despite losing the expected goals (xG) battle 0.81 - 1.57, and they huffed and puffed in a goalless draw at Torino last time out.
Inter have started strongly and they are in good shape to capitalise on an inferior and slightly overperforming Lazio side.
