Fenerbahce to end winless run in Konya
Turkish crisis club Fenerbahce travel to Konyaspor to try and boost their push at the top of the Super Lig. Will the Istanbul giants finally break their winless run? Have a read of our preview here:
It’s been a struggle for the Yellow Canaries
Fenerbahce are a giant in Turkish football. They are expected to challenge at the top of the league year in year out, yet this season has become a real struggle.
They are currently without a manager following the departure of Ersun Yanal. They are also on a run of six games without a win and sit fifth in the table, a massive 12 points behind leaders Trabzonspor who take on second place Istanbul Basaksehir on Sunday.
Fenerbahce’s poor form has coincided with a real drop in their defensive stats. They have conceded two or more goals in six of their last seven matches in all competitions and have crashed out of the Turkish Cup while watching their slim title hopes evaporate.
The defeat against rival Galatasaray on 23 February summed up their problems. They took the lead through a high controversial penalty only to allow a free header from a corner and a soft penalty to turn the game on its head.
A brilliant solo breakaway strike from Henry Onyekuru sealed the win for Gala, but Fenerbahce were the masters of their own downfall.
They have shown character in the last two games with late levellers in both but the win they really need has to come this weekend as they look to stay close to the front runners.
Konyaspor heading for relegation
Konyaspor started the season brightly, losing once in their opening seven-game, picking three wins in the process but in the 18 matches since they have only won a single game.
This form has seen them slip into the bottom three and despite just one defeat in the last six, they have drawn five to keep them embedded in the mire.
The problem of late has been scoring goals. They have managed to hit the net just four times in the last seven matches which is the real reason they have been failing to pick up wins.
They will find an out-of-form Fenerbahce a tough opponent on Saturday and could be in for another long afternoon.
