CSK to keep the ball rolling
The first midweek double header in this year’s Vivo Indian Premier League concludes with the Kolkata Knight Riders taking on the inform Chennai Super Kings in a game that could see CSK make their way to the top of the pile, if other results go in their favour.
Inconsistency isn’t the key
Just the two points from the first three matches for the Kolkata Knights Riders who will be desperate to find some form and some consistency. They go in to this one on the back of a relative mauling by the IPL leaders so far the Royal Challengers Bangalore, as they suffered a 38 run defeat.
It was the bowlers who let the KKR fans down, as they struggled to get a grip on the game in the first innings. Despite restricting RCB to 9-2, no KKR bowlers went for an economy rate of below 7.75 as the vastly experienced pair of Glenn Maxwell and AB de Villiers hit them to all parts of the ground in Chennai.
In response to chasing 205 to win, the Knight Riders needed a hero to go and play an almighty innings, and that is what they didn’t get. Many batsmen got in with five players scoring between 21 and 31, but no one stuck around for long enough to make their mark on the innings. Lots to work on for Eoin Morgan’s men, and a meeting with an inform CSK, is probably not what they want to get back on the winning bandwagon.
Anyone’s game
The good start that the Chennai Super Kings have made to the 14th edition of the IPL is made even more positive for the CSK fans, by the fact that the crazily strong Mumbai Indians, who looked untouchable last year, have shown that they are indeed, beatable.
Last time out they faced a tricky tie with the Rajasthan Royals and came out unscathed with a 45 run victory. CSK put an impressive 188 on the board with Faf du Plessis (33) and Ambati Rayudu (27) top scoring.
Despite having a decent score on the board, the bowlers still had a task on their hands restricting a dangerous Royals batting line up. Whilst Deepak Chahar didn’t continue his good form, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran and Ravi Jadeja picked up the slack and took 7 wickets between them to restrict Rajasthan to just 143, and propel CSK to second place in the IPL table.
Match Tip
Whilst I am predicting another CSK win, I think there will be a few wickets for both sides.
That’s why I think there will be more than 12.5 wickets in the match between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Chennai Super Kings at 1.72 with Betway.
