Rangers to keep their title hopes alive at killie
Rangers travel to Kilmarnock on Wednesday knowing they must win if they are to realistically keep their title hopes alive. Will Steven Gerrard’s side defy the odds, and take this race to the wire? Have a read of our preview here:
Gerrard’s faith repaid
Gers faced Hibs at the weekend in what was a huge game for Steven Gerrard’s side. The 0-0 draw against Aberdeen and defeat at Tynecastle at the end of January, had removed all margin for error as Celtic keep on winning convincingly.
The former Liverpool ace made a bold decision to replace central defender Nikola Katic with highly-rated youngster George Edmundson, and the was repaid in style.
The Oldham academy product came up trumps to smash home an equaliser for Gers in first-half stoppage time, setting up an enthralling second period in which Rangers eventually turned the game around to win it with a late Ianis Hagi strike.
The win put the Ibrox club seven points behind Celtic with a game in hand. It is still a big ask with Celtic in great form and financially on another level, announcing profits of £24.4m for the final six months of the last financial year, but if Rangers can keep on their coattails, they have a great chance of taking advantage should the Bhoys slip up.
Kilmarnock won’t be an easy game, but Rangers know they must win to keep things interesting at the top.
Killie bounce back
Alex Dyer’s men went on a nine-game run without a win between late November and the end of January with goals hard to come by. In those nine matches, they failed to find the net in six of them, falling to 1-0 defeats four times.
They have since won back-to-back games against Ross County and Hearts to give them a chance of catching both Hibs and Livingston. Things look a lot better with those six points in the bag, but the next four games are about as tough as it gets for Killie.
They face Rangers and Hibs at home before an away trip to Celtic Park and then back to Rugby Park to take on Aberdeen. This run will make or break the season for Alex Dyer’s side but the last two games at least show there is hope that Kilmarnock will not be easy to beat.
Kilmarnock vs Rangers betting tip
With the pressure on Rangers it could be easy to back against them but as they showed on Tuesday, this is a team that thrives under pressure so we are backing Gers to win to nil at odds of 19/20 with betway.
