Back with a bang
This season has seen, for the first time in a considerable while, Inter emerge as serious title contenders. Antonio Conte has worked his magic in Milan and made the once formidable Nerazzurri rise towards the top once more.
He has signed Romelu Lukaku from Manchester United which has proved a superb piece of business and Lautaro Martinez has become a key man in this exciting team.
The pair tore apart Napoli on Monday to highlight just how far this side have come in such a short space of time under the guidance of Conte. Having a strike partnership that can really be effective is something the Inter tifosi have been crying out for and with Lukaku and Lautaro you feel they could have found the next legendary strike force.
Inter’s only defeat this season came at home to Juventus and they have dropped points in only three other matches. It has been a magnificent season so far and they will be looking to continue that form in 2020.
The underdog everyone loves
Atalanta are the club that everyone loves because they are seen as the plucky underdog who produce an endless stream of talented young players. This season they have become a truly formidable outfit as Parma found to their detriment last Monday.
The problem for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side is they have been a bit streaky. The run they went on November, two draws and two defeats, has left them playing catch up with to the likes of Roma, Lazio, Juve and Inter.
It is not out of the question that they could catch these illustrious clubs especially given the last two results. Monday’s 5-0 thrashing of Parma followed a victory prior to the winter break of the same scoreline against AC Milan.
It was a result that made the doubters sit up and take note. They have now won four of the last five with only a 2-1 defeat in Bologna staining their recent record.
Their key men are Papu Gomez and, of course, Slovenia international Josip Ilicic who was superb in the victory against Parma, netting a brace and putting on a master class in the middle.
