Inter hoping to see off free-scoring Shakhtar
The Europa League reaches its final throws as Inter host Shakhtar for a place in the final. Both sides will fancy their chances but who will progress to face Man United or Sevilla? Have a read of our preview here:
Inter’s first European trophy in a decade?
Inter Milan have struggled to return to the heights they once enjoyed over recent years but on Monday they will be expecting to reach the Europa League final for a chance to win their first continental trophy since 2010.
They have enjoyed an excellent season, finishing runners-up to Juventus and able to build a side capable of another title tilt in 2020/21.
The team has agreed to sign Alexis Sanchez and will likely retain all their stars for the new campaign and winning the Europa League would be a nice way to round off a positive campaign.
The front pairing of Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez have been a joy to watch in 2019/20, combining for 37 league goals between them.
Lukaku hit the net 23 times with Martinez bagging 14 while teammate Alexis Sanchez had four goals and eight assists, showing he can still be a big contributor in a top European club.
They will be favourites to win on Monday, but it won’t be as easy as many people think.
Shakhtar remain Ukraine’s best hope
After dropping out of the Champions League, Shakhtar have found the Europa to be an absolute walk in the park.
They have surged through each of the knockout rounds without so much as batting an eyelid.
They must feel they can win the competition even though there are three top sides left to potentially compete with.
To start off they thrashed Swedish side Malmo 5-1 over two legs before smashing Bundesliga side Wolfsburg by the same scoreline.
A quarter-final against Swiss side Basel was a walkover as the Ukrainians won 4-1 to set up an interesting match-up with Inter.
Junior Moraes remains the star man in the team but he is ably supported by a number of key figures. Taison and Alan Patrick offer yet more Brazilian flair to a side famous for their South American links.
Will it be enough to get past the Italian giants? We can’t wait to find out.
