Down and dirty for Mexico
In their attempts to secure a spot in the knockout stages, it’s highly likely that the Mexicans will resort to underhand tactics among other things, and rack up some yellow cards.
Match Tips
I have a feeling Mexico will hand over a large part of the initiative to Sweden, hoping that the Swedish back line will end up too far up the field and be caught out and give their faster, attacking players the chance to pounce.
The Mexicans will have to shut the game down at whatever cost
As long as Mexico don’t have a decisive result the likelihood is that Sweden will be in their half for a large portion of the match. If this is the case then the Mexicans will have to shut the game down at whatever cost.
They’ve been quite well behaved as a team so far, only managing two yellow cards against Germany and none against South Korea, but the good guy image is just a façade. In the final group game against a tough Swedish team that showed a lot of resolve against a difficult German side the Mexicans the heat will rise and the rule book will be thrown out of the window.
The fact that Mexico are in a favourable position means they won’t want to leave anything to chance and will defend that position at all costs. For them to get more than 2.5 yellow cards is nowhere near unthinkable in a match with much at stake.
I’m playing odds of 11/5 with LeoVegas that the Mexicans will play a dirty game and rack up a few yellow cards.
