Galatasaray to continue title challenge v Besiktas
It is the Istanbul derby this weekend as in-form Galatasaray host Besiktas. Can Cimbom keep their great form going against their rivals? Have a read of our preview here:
Fatih Terim getting Galatasaray playing
Galatasaray are absolutely plying of late. The 2019 champions have been swatting aside all in their path in the last 10 games in all competitions, winning nine and drawing last weekend away to Sivasspor.
They are playing attacking football that has seen them create 26 chances in the last three games alone, netting eight times.
Players like Sofiane Feghouli and Younes Belhanda offer an attacking flair that teams find hard to handle while Monaco loanee Henry Onyekuru has pace to burn (just watch his goal against Fenerbahce if you want to see the evidence).
Terim has got them brimming with confidence and nine straight wins in the league prior to last weekend’s draw, has put them back in contention for the title.
They currently sit just three points behind both leaders Trabzonspor and Istanbul Basaksehir, who play each other in the early kick-off.
They have the momentum to push right until the end of the season with Radamel Falcao leading the line superbly and Fulham loanee Jean Michael Serri protecting the backline in imperious fashion.
They are the ones to watch and could well defend their title in spite of a slow start to the campaign.
Besiktas too inconsistent
Back-to-back wins has put the Black Eagles within six points of Galatasaray heading into the derby, but they have struggled to maintain consistency over the course of the season.
They have particularly struggled against sides you’d expect them to beat but they have still got a lot to play for.
Atiba Hutchinson has been excellent again with the veteran Canadian running the midfield while Burak Yilmaz has banged home 12 goals this season. They will need to go on a superb run of form between now and the end of the season to overtake their rivals but will give them a tough game on Sunday.
You can expect them to go for it and Galatasaray will also want to keep up the pressure on the leaders which should give us an open game with a great derby atmosphere.
Galatasaray v Besiktas betting tip
There are not many sides in Europe in better form than Galatasaray over the last 10 games. They have pushed themselves back in title contention, albeit an outside chance. This should be a good game but we are backing a home win with both teams to score at odds of 13/5 with bet365.
