Reigning champions backable at home
Nations League reigning champions France host Denmark in the first game of their defence on the title in Group 1 of League A on Friday evening.
These fixtures come at quite a horrible time for the majority of players, being called up to their national teams is an honour, but at the end of a relentless tiring season, there is an argument that they deserve more of a break.
The Nations League is a competition that benefits the smaller nations, giving them more to play for, for that reason it would not be a surprise to see some experimentation and squad rotation from managers.
That could suit the French, because the depth of their squad is incredible, they could arguably field a fourth or fifth string that would fancy their chances of beating the Danish national team.
Background
These fixtures are tricky to predict and waiting until team news is released by deciding on a bet would be sensible.
Christian Eriksen is back in the Denmark squad for the first time since suffering a cardiac arrest on the pitch at the Euros.
Joakim Maehle and Kasper Dolberg could be the danger men alongside him, needing to step up to hurt France, due to the absence of Yussuf Poulsen in the squad this time around.
William Saliba is in Didier Deschamps’ squad, and it will be interesting to see if he receives any minutes ahead of returning to Arsenal this summer.
Boubacar Kamara, recently acquired by Aston Villa, could step into the spotlight, with the embarrassment of riches of Karim Benzema, Christopher Nkunku and Kylian Mbappe in attack.
Aurelien Tchouameni could also be on the move this summer after an excellent campaign with Monaco.
Goals?
Unders could be an angle, but the level of attacking talent on the pitch dissuades me from getting involved.
Once again, team news will give a clearer picture.
France have scored in all of their last 20.
France have conceded in six of ten.
France have seen both teams score in six of ten.
France have seen over 2.5 goals in six of ten.
Denmark have scored in nine of ten.
Denmark have conceded in four of ten.
Denmark have seen both teams score in three of ten.
Denmark have seen over 2.5 goals in five of ten.
France are rightful favourites and should kick on to seal their place in the finals, in a four team group with Austria and Croatia.
