Dinamo looking for a start at Slutsk
Belarusian champions Dinamo Brest are still searching for their first win of the season following a 1-1 draw on the opening weekend of the campaign. Will they have better luck at FC Slutsk? Have a read of our preview here:
Not paying the penalty
Slutsk first game of the season saw them beat Slavia Mozyr 3-1 at home, much to the delight of their fans, but this game was unusual in that all the goals were as a result of penalties. Yes, all four of them!
The home side were harshly dealt a blow in the first half when the referee decided Serhii Chebotaeiv handled in the box. The resulting penalty was calmly slotted home but Slutsk regrouped quickly and enjoyed the better of the first half, grabbing an equaliser in stoppage time before the break.
Again, it was a penalty and Artem Serdyuk made no mistake. There would be a further two penalties for the home side in the second half, both pretty conclusive and they made them count, winning 3-1 and looking forward to playing the champions on Saturday.
Champions struggle in season opener
Dinamo Brest finished last season with 75 points, ending up five clear of second-place BATE Borisov who has won the title 15 times before. In securing top spot Dinamo also assured themselves of a first-ever Belarusian Premier League title.
They, therefore, came into this campaign with confidence but were left frustrated at the weekend thanks to a 1-1 home draw with Smolevichi.
They went behind to a piledriver in early in the second-half but a set-piece came to their rescue when big central defender Gaby Kiki headed the equaliser.
Despite having the bulk of the chances, they couldn’t make the pressure count and face a tricky trip to Slutsk this weekend.
