Strong home favourites
La Liga is already heading into week six, and it’s finally time for me to jump in with my first Spanish betting tip for the season. It’s not the most glamorous match this week but there’s some value to be had in the market for this one.
Espanyol
Espanyol have had a decent start to the season, taking seven points from five games, setting themselves up in a reasonable eighth place in the table. Having said that, the table in general after five matches doesn’t really say much this early on. It’s better to focus on other factors, for example how their performances have been on the pitch.
The Periquitos have looked good on home turf at the Estadi Cornella-El Prat, winning two out of two against Valencia 2-0 and Levante 1-0 respectively. Now they’re coming off the back of a 1-0 loss to Real Madrid at the Bernabeu where they showed grit stood up well despite the result.
But it’s really at home where Espanyol will make the most out of their season and they it’s looking likely they’ll do just that and take the three points on Tuesday night. Their key centre back David Lopez is back in contention and their squad elsewhere is looking strong with no other injuries or suspensions.
Eibar
Eibar are looking like they’re finally getting into gear after a slow start. They racked up losses to Huesca and Getafe in their opening two matches. But the Basques have turned it around, taking seven points from their last three matches, meaning they’ll be heading to Catalonia in good confidence.
Having said that Eibar have had a bit of good luck on their side in their win against Real Sociedad and with a 1-1 draw against Atlético Madrid. On the weekend they rightfully got the better of Leganes, but they were at home and their opponents were weak to say the least.
A quick glance at their squad shows they’re in decent shape but they continue to miss Pedro León in the attack.
Match Tips
Two evenly matched teams on paper, but I still think that Espanyol have been the ones to impress so far this season - even if both teams are sitting on the same amount of points so far. Everything is pointing to a tight match match. Espanyol are much stronger at home, and it’s on home soil where they’ve taken their points so far this season, and not letting the opposition find the net to boot.
