England to finish the job in style
England will be appearing in the Euro 2020 finals and will want to seal the deal in style on Thursday when the face Montenegro. Can Gareth Southgate’s side fill their boost? Have a read of our preview here:
Was it ever in doubt?
We, as England fans, know that the Three Lions often cruise through the qualifiers only to serve up a pile of dung at the all-important tournament but there is a sense after Russia, that this is a new era for the country.
The talented, young squad, have given football fans belief in their national team once again and although it has not always been plain sailing, qualifying for Euro 2020 has always felt a mere formality.
Defeat in the Czech Republic was probably needed as a wake-up call for a side that were on cruise control and the way they dealt with Bulgaria, in very difficult circumstances it must be said, was exceptional.
They will be expected to dominate Montenegro for 90 minutes and they probably will but let’s hope we avoid seeing some of the defending that cost us in Prague and nearly cost us against Kosovo at St Mary’s.
Let’s see it mixed up
We know that keeping a settled side is important, but it would be nice to see a few new faces for a game like this or at least see the team mix it up a bit. They 5-3-2 formation doesn’t really suit some of the wide players at Southgate’s disposal but it does make the Three Lions a lot more solid at the back.
John Stones could return and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain might also be given a chance. Tammy Abraham should be allowed to start after a string of impressive displays for Chelsea this season.
There is unlikely to be too many chances but again Joe Gomez is another name that should be on the teamsheet come Thursday evening and surely James Maddison and Callum Wilson have earnt an opportunity to show what they can do against a weak Montenegro outfit.
There is plenty to like as an England fan right now but the shear options available has got to be one of the best headaches an England manager has ever had to deal with.
England vs Montenegro betting tip
You have to feel confident that this England side will be able to completely dominate a game against the Montenegrins and they will likely find the back of the net several times. That’s why we are backing this one to finish at over 3.5 goals at even odds as our tip here.
