A cagey affair in Minsk

Dinamo Minsk host Neman Grodno on Friday as the host have made a poor start to the new season. Can they turn their fortunes around? Have a read of our preview here:

Dinamo Minsk really struggling

After finishing fourth last season, many could be forgiven for thinking that Dinamo Minsk were going to improve in 2020 as they look to convert a solid campaign into a title challenge.

What has transpired in the early stages of the new campaign, cannot be further from that goal. The side have played four games and have lost three while tasting victory only once.

They have scored an average of just one goal per game and were left pointless again last weekend in a 1-0 away defeat to Gorodeya despite outshooting the home side by 18-4.

It is a worrying trend even in these early stages of the new season. Dinamo Minsk will have had ambitions of sealing a place in Europe if not challenging the traditional powerhouse, BATE Borisov, for a title but instead they sit just two points above the drop zone at the time of writing.

Not the way fans would have wanted to see their team perform and patience with manager Sergei Gurenko may not last long if results continue to disappoint.

Grodno making a solid start

Neman Grodno, much like Dinamo Minsk, have not found scoring goals easy but unlike their more illustrious visitors, they have still picked up results.

An opening day defeat was quickly banished with a victory in round two against Vitebsk. This win was followed up by back-to-back draws.

Last weekend a home draw against Belshina was marked with a beautiful free-kick scored by Gregam Kadimyan. Neman couldn’t hold on for the win, but they are showing a resilience that puts them in good stead for the coming campaign.
