Reigning champions host surprise package Mozyr

Two of gameweek two’s winners go head-to-head this Saturday at Regional Sport Complex Brestsky, the home of Belarusian Premier League reigning champions Dinamo Brest. Slavia Mozyr are the visitors in this one, coming off the back of an eye-catching underdog scalp, beating 2019 runners up BATE Borisov 2-1 at home. Brest are firm favourites for this encounter as they should be boasting a title winning squad against last season’s eighth place finishers. However buoyed from the result last weekend, Mihail Martsinovich and his players will believe anything is possible.

Last time out

Brest got their campaign rolling with a 1-0 win away to Slutsk, climbing to fifth place as a result with four points thus far. Artem Milevsky got the only goal of the game on 18 minutes, usually more of a creative player at 35, the Ukraine international notched four times last season, so is on course to beat that tally already this term.

Slavia Mozyr’s win over BATE Borisov was arguably the result of the weekend, Willum Willumsson broke the deadlock after just 10 minutes, but Nikita Melnikov ensured that was not a fatal blow. The forward was the match winner with strikes in the 32nd and 48th minute as they held on for a memorable three points.

Ones to watch

Nikita Melnikov was the hero of the hour in the BATE win getting both the goals. In 16 minutes either side of half time the Russian’s brace equaled his tally for last season, sky rocketing the expectations now on the shoulders of the 23-year-old to replicate that display on a regular basis, and ensure Slavia Mozyr do not flirt with the relegation dog fight this campaign.

Denis Laptev was prolific last term for the champions, scoring 12 times and assisting six for Brest. He enjoyed four Belarusian Premier League campaigns with Slavia Mozyr in his early 20s, so will be extra hungry to make his mark on this encounter. He has bagged 12 in the last two seasons in succession, I would expect him to hit similar heights this time around.

Mozyr have the wind in their sails and so will put up a good fight, however you cannot ignore Brest’s quality, which will shine through.

Dinamo Brest – Slavia Mozyr Betting Tip
