DC United to get back on track against San Jose
DC United play host to San Jose Earthquakes for the first time since beating them 4-0 in 2017 in a cross conference clash. San Jose will make the over 5500 miles all around trip in good form having won their last two matches that were both cross conference affairs. Though equally United with MLS icon Wayne Rooney are sitting pretty in first-place in the Eastern Conference. The hosts will be slim favourites but the tie is very much there for the taking, both sides will fancy their chances.
Recent encounters
There is not that much data to go off with these two franchises in either conference however United have won the last two matches between the sides, away last season and at home in 2017. 7-1 being an aggregate of those fixtures. Though the Quakes have won their last two it is the first time they have done so since 2017, though having said that they have only been defeated once in their last seven (4W, 2D, 1L). Both teams have scored in three out of United’s last four matches. United will be confident they can turn their recent form around in this match (1W, 3D, 2L).
Rooney vs. Wondolowski
MLS’ top goalscorer of all time, Chris Wondolowski will get the chance to test his skills with his opposite number being England's most-capped outfield player and the scorer of 208 Premier League goals, Wayne Rooney. A mouth-watering matchup for the neutral especially as Wondolowski comes to Audi Field bang in form having bagged six goals in his last two games. Rooney has a couple more than the American with a tally of eight for the season, the pair are aged 33 and 36 respectively so it it could be the only time they get to lock horns in their record-breaking careers.
A goal-fest?
The statistics suggest there is a good chance of a high-scoring affair in the early hours of Sunday morning with 50% of United’s home matches containing four or more goals. 12 of San Jose’s last 14 matches have seen three or more goals, so that area could be another profitable market. The Quakes have also scored in 83.33% of their away trips this season. The West coast side have led at half time in four out of their five wins this season. San Jose are one point outside the playoffs in the Western Conference with a game in hand so the scalp of DC would go along way to putting them in the mix for qualification as we near the halfway point of the season.
DC United to start June as they mean to go on with an entertaining win against San Jose Earthquakes in a good game for the neutral.
