Bluebirds could be stuffed
It’s crunch time for Cardiff. But will they have enough bite to beat Burnley?
Bluebirds scrapping
With Huddersfield and Fulham already down, it’s hoped the race to avoid filling the third and final relegation spot will go to the wire - at least that’s the case for the neutrals anyway. But a quick glance at this weekend’s fixtures and it’s soon apparent this may not be the case.
Both of Cardiff’s relegation rivals, Southampton and Brighton, will have eyes on securing much needed home victories against Wolves and Bournemouth respectively, leaving Neil Warnock’s battlers needing to address away-day blues which has seen them take 8 points and score only 9 times in 15 - the worst return in the division.
Should results go against them, the gap to safety could be as much as 7 points with five to play. Even with Neil Warnock in the dugout, that’s likely to be too much of an ask.
Burnley finishing strong
It’s been a strange old season for Burnley. In, and then, very quickly out of Europe; the ‘pass-the-parcel’ nature of the number one jersey and what looked, at one point, a genuine fight for survival, all amounts to a campaign a far cry from last season’s high of seventh.
But Mr Gravel Voice himself has overseen a superb second half of the campaign leading The Clarets to more than double the amount of wins (7) than they managed in entire first half of the season up to Christmas (3).
Having seen off Wolves and Bournemouth in comfortable fashion in the last two, you’d have to say one more win and a tally of 39 points should all but secure Burnley’s top-flight status for a third straight year.
Burnley vs. Cardiff betting tip
Neil Warnock has to be applauded for what he has done with limited resources at Cardiff. But I'm sensing the cruel manner of their defeat to Chelsea will have knocked the stuffing out of them.
Playing Burnley is starting to become a difficult fixture once more and I expect the visitors to find that out. Saturday’s PL tip from me then is Burnley to win @ 20/21 (1.95).
