Goal drought set to continue
Goals are so last year...
The Irish attack have experienced a torrid time of late. In the past six matches they have scored a whopping 2 goals. In fact, Ireland might just be the worst team to watch in international football right now. Let's take a quick look at their last few results:
- Gibraltar 0 Ireland 1
- Denmark 0 Ireland 0
- Ireland 0 Northern Ireland 0
- Ireland 0 Wales 1
- Ireland 0 Denmark 0
- Poland 1 Ireland 1
Mick McCarthy appears to have instructed his 'strikers' in the Principles of Murphy's Law and seems intent on breaking all the wrong goalscoring records. Against Gibraltar, Ireland were lacklustre and lucky to leave the tiny territory containing around 30,000 people with three points, courtesy of an incredible Randolph save.
So, will the arrival of this team from the caucasus have an aphrodisiacal effect on Ireland's impotent strike force? Looking at their history, don't bank on it.
Georgia & Ireland - Europe's least exciting rivalry
In case, I haven't sold this game already, let's have a look at their head to head recently.
- 2017 Georgia 1 Ireland 1 (World Cup qualification)
- 2016 Ireland 1 Georgia 0 (World Cup qualification)
- 2015 Ireland 1 Georgia 0 (European Championship qualification)
- 2014 Georgia 1 Ireland 1 (European Championship qualification)
So, 6 goals in 4 games, doesn't bode well for two teams who are scoring even less than usual.
Betting tip
I see this match producing the most predictable outcome of all of Tuesday's fixtures, bar Italy beating Liechtenstein (although I predict only by a few goals), in this being a low-scoring game.
I am going with under 2.5 goals at odds of 4/7 with Coral.
