Bayern edging closer to another title
Bayern Munich will be looking to cement their title as they host Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday. Is it now just a formality or will there be another twist in the Bundesliga tail? Have a read of our preview here:
16 unbeaten says it all
Bayern flattened Bayer Leverkusen last weekend to make it 16 unbeaten in the Bundesliga while also recording their ninth straight victory.
The title is theirs, let’s face it, the only question now is how long it will take them to make it official.
There is no denying how impressive they have been since Hans-Dieter Flick took charge and it is even more amazing to think they were once thought to be struggling this season.
The gap at the top is growing and you feel it is only going to get bigger as the season progresses.
Last weekend way they made light work of Bayer Leverkusen served to highlight the gulf between themselves and everyone else.
Serge Gnabry hit his 19th goal of the campaign while Robert Lewandowski banged home his 30th of the season to continue their excellent form.
Surely it is only now a matter of time before they are crown champions yet again.
Champions League place still in their own hands
Despite falling to a disappointing defeat at Freiburg last Friday, Borussia Monchengladbach still have their destiny in their own hands.
Bayer Leverkusen’s defeat at the hands of Bayern means they remain behind Die Fohlen on goal difference in what is proving to be a really tight race for the European places.
The defeat at Freiburg did highlight their recent struggles. Marco Rose’s side have now only won one of their last four games which is not the kind of form required to seal a Champions League place.
They created more chances than Freiburg on Friday, seven compared to the home side’s five, but were undone by a set-piece early in the second half.
Jonas Hofmann was their best player, taking four shots in the game, yet even with his industry and effort, the away side could not break down the host and now will be looking anxious at the forthcoming fixtures.
They face Wolfsburg after Bayern and also have improving Hertha to come. Improvement is needed if they are to get back to the form they showed in September and October – boy does that feel like a lifetime ago.
Bayern Munich v Borussia Monchengladbach betting tip
Bayern have been scoring for fun in recent matches and they have a very solid defence too. We still think there will be plenty of goals and are, therefore, backing this one to finish with over 3.5 goals at odds of 1.77 with 888sport.
