The Brick Wall vs. Eibar
Atletico Madrid welcome Eibar to the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium on Sunday during matchday 3 of Spain's La Liga. Atletico have, in typical Atletico fashion won both their games with a goal to nil whilst Eibar have kicked off their season with a draw and a defeat. Will Atletico add another clean-sheet to their tally or will Eibar be the first team to break through Atleti's wall?
Atletico Madrid
Diego Simeone and his new-look team have so far been beyond impressive, they are, despite the departures of veterans Godin, Luis and Juanfran as solid as ever at the back and are yet to concede a single goal.
And as mentioned above, they are, in typical Atleti fashion racking up 1-0 wins. Out of their 22 league wins last year, Los Rojiblancos only conceded in 4 of them and 9 out of those 18 victories without conceding a goal ended in, big surprise, 1-0 victories!
The Wanda has become an absolute fortress and is arguably the hardest away game in the league, pubescent fan boys must be thinking 'WHAT ABOUT BARCA AND REAL' but the stats tell its tale. Out of last seasons 19 home games Atleti won 15, drew 1 and conceded a league low of 10 goals whilst Barcelona conceded 17 and city rivals Real 15 at their respective home grounds.
This is the perfect opportunity to add another 3 point scalp and assert themselves at the top of the league and i do not think they will squander this chance.
Eibar
Los Armero's start to the campaign has been disappointing to say the least after losing to newcomers Mallorca 2-1 and drawing to other newcomers Osasuna 0-0. After their weak performances against 2 newly promoted sides a trip to Madrid is the last thing they will have asked for, but, that is what reality has served up and all they can do is their best.
Eibar ended at a respectable 12th place last season and while they were never really close to qualifying for the Europa League spots they were never really in any real danger of getting relegated either. The reason as to why they did not end last season farther down the table despite their horrid away record is that they are quite decent at home and when a team ends the season in no-mans land with a decent home record, you know their away record is absolute baloney.
This is a game basically no team will expect to take a point from (except the obvious ones) and the same goes for Eibar. If they cannot score at Osasuna i am not exactly expecting them to travel to Wanda and run riot.
Betting tip
There is one bet that really stands out, it is highly plausible and has good value. I will be backing an Atletico Madrid win and clean sheet at 19/20 with Bethard.
