Aldershot host Woking with local pride at stake

In one of the most unheralded derbies in football, Woking travel across the Surrey border into Hampshire to face Aldershot at the Recreation Ground. Who will come out with local bragging rights? Have a read of our preview here:

Aldershot trying to rebuild

The Shots have had a fraught history when it comes to financial problems and that plight might well be added to if the current Coronavirus outbreak continues to prevent matches from taking place.

As it stands, the weekend’s local derby against rivals Woking is scheduled to take place and it will, as usual, be the subject of bragging rights across the two towns.

The current season sees Aldershot unlikely to threaten either the relegation or play-off places so this one will be down to pride and an effort to prevent their rivals getting a march towards the top seven.

The key players in the Aldershot side are the likes of Ethan Chislett who has six goals in the National League this season and star creator Craig Tanner who has made a team-high, 16 key passes this season.

They have conceded the same number of goals as Woking during 2019-20 (55) but have not been quite as consistent when it comes to finding the net, hitting 43 goals in 39 games.

The home advantage could be crucial as Aldershot tend to do well in the derby, their fans will certainly be hoping they can produce another good performance on Saturday.

Woking struggling to maintain play-off push

Woking started the season looking very strong, but they have fallen away sharply since then. They currently sit outside the play-off spot by three points and will be looking to get themselves back in contention for the post-season challenge with three points at the weekend.

A defeat at Barnet has left them looking up at the likes of Stockport and Halifax, three points above them and will be desperate to get back to winning ways after their home game against Dagenham was postponed last weekend.

Jake Hyde is their main threat, netting 16 times this season while the creative talents of Dave Tarpey and Jamar Loza will be required with them creating 20 and 18 chances respectively.

It will be a full-blooded clash but Woking’s need for points is greater which may play into their opponent’s hands.

Aldershot v Woking betting tip

These games are usually tight affairs with neither side willing to give any ground to their rivals. With that in mind, we are backing this one to finish with under 2.5 goals at odds of 9/10 with bet365.
