Waiting in the wings
It’s been a long awaited match up this one, but finally we get to see Ajax meet Juventus in the Champions League again. Ajax had an absolute blast in both their home and away matches against Real Madrid last round. But can they really do one over on Juventus as well?
Corner focus
Juventus are quite the opposite to Real Madrid this year. They’re in full swing and feeling good. Serie A is pretty much secure and has been for some time, allowing them to throw their full weight behind a highly sought after Champions League title.
They managed to fix seven corners against Atletico
They managed to put a pretty weak first leg against Atletico Madrid behind them by well and truly getting the job done at home. They have to be considered one of the strongest defensive sides in the world without a doubt.
It has to be said, it was pretty impressive that they managed to fix seven corners against Atletico in their away match against, despite the disappointing result. It goes to show just how effective Juve actually are in getting forward and winning corner balls.
Ronaldo’s return
According to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, Cristiano Ronaldo will be making an appearance on Tuesday night. Bad news for Ajax that’s for sure. A tactically able coach in Allegri will be able to utilise Ronaldo to terrifying affect if he’s on form.
Key players in set pieces
Mandzukic, Rugani, Bonucci and Ronaldo are strong, key players in the Rossoneri equation. That’s why set pieces such as corners are a key part of Allegri’s play. Don’t be surprised to see them utilising the wings to float balls in from wide for Ronaldo or Mandzukic to connect with.
Ajax on the line
The Amsterdammers are certainly no chumps. They’ll be sure to have their wits about them. They’ll be defending in numbers with their backs to the wall which is guaranteed to push Juventus to the side at times, forcing corner balls.
Betting tip
A lot will be going on in this match. Two strong teams with a lot of history in European competition. Juve are strong on corners with some key players who love to get involved with set pieces. They’ll dig in to their positions, leading a boatload of corners.
Ajax are often vulnerable when teams attack at them with abandon. Juve love to shoot at goal, and love a cross even more. That’s why I’m betting Juventus over 4.5 corners at odds of 8/11 (1.76) with Unibet.
