Bremen to maintain unbeaten run with ease
Werder Bremen still have a strong chance of Europa League qualification and they will look to enhance those claims when they welcome Mainz to the Weser Stadium this Saturday.
Opposite Trajectories
Bremen come into this game unbeaten in 2019, a run which has seen them overcome a grim start to the season to sit in 8thplace pushing for a Europa League birth. Mainz on the other hand have lost six of their last seven, failing to trouble the scoreboard on four of those occasions. 05 have a healthy 16 point buffer to the relegation places but an equally large 12 point gap to the European births, so an away trip to a motivated Bremen side will not come at an ideal time for them.
Max Kruse has been at the forefront of Werder’s resurgence. The ex-German international bagged a brace and an assist in the win over Leverkusen before the break, bringing his tally to four goals in his last three outings. His form along with Kosovan Milot Raschica (3 in 2 games) will be giving Mainz coach Stefan Schwarz plenty of headaches coming of the back of a 6-0 defeat to Bayern Munich just before the break.
Werder Bremen hold the honour of being the only Bundesliga team to score in every match over the course of the season so far and there is no evidence to suggest Mainz will have the tools to end that run this weekend.
Manager's View
Mainz coach Stefan Schwarz had this to say on his side’s poor form of late: "You can’t say that. In fact, we got the same number of points as in the first half. Nevertheless, we are of course not satisfied with the point yield from the last games.''
''For us it is important to look at the individual defeats in a differentiated way. Whoever does that, realizes that, for example, we played very good games against Borussia Mönchengladbach and Hertha BSC and were able to implement many of our game principles. It is also clear that we did not succeed in Munich.’’
Betting Tip
With both teams here being so polar opposite statistically, I think it is appropriate to follow the form book in this instance and the best value about lots of goals but Mainz being shy of the target is Werder Bremen to win to nil at 15/8 with Paddy Power. They have home advantage and Mainz have really struggled on the road and scoring of late.
