Belgium to take home the bronze
I can’t believe it’s already time to dish out the medals. In line to take the bronze medal and third spot are England and Belgium. They’ve already met each other once in the group stages of the tournament, but by both teams fielding weakened sides neither really gave each other a proper test.
Similarly for us it’s difficult to take anything away from that game and get a real handle on it. Belgium won the game 1-0 after a real touch of class from Adnan Januzaj. I think we’re going to see a similar result in this one with Belgium making history and taking home their first World Cup medal ever.
Belgium
The Belgians came into this tournament with high hopes and expectations. The Golden Generation of Courtois, Kompany, De Bruyne, Hazard and Lukaku are at the perfect stage of their careers to succeed in a major tournament, and it’s difficult to see a better team coming out of Belgium for some time.
Belgium have a much better team and I don’t think they’ll miss out on the opportunity to take home their country’s first World Cup medal
After taking all the points in their group against Panama, Tunisia and England, they met Japan in the round of 16. It was at this point that Belgium showed true mental strength. After going behind by two goals, they managed to completely turn it around and promptly won the match 3-2 in the dying seconds of the game.
They then went up against tournament favourites Brazil, winning the game with a convincing performance 2-1. Finally people were beginning to take Belgium seriously as candidates to take home the trophy. Unfortunately they ended up losing their semi-final 1-0 against a composed and solid France side.
Belgium though undoubtedly disappointed, still have something to play for in the third place playoff. In my eyes, Belgium have a much better team and I don’t think they’ll miss out on the opportunity to take home their country’s first World Cup medal.
England
After having finished in the second spot behind Belgium the English had to take the game to penalties in order to see off the Colombians in the round of 16. Their dream road to the final was stretched out in the front of them, and they looked extremely comfortable by winning 2-0 against Sweden.
It will be tough for England who looked pretty worn out in their last match
It wasn’t difficult to see how much the English team and fans alike were desperate to reach a long-awaited place in a World Cup Final, and only Croatia stood in their way. Unfortunately it ended in tears when Mario Mandzukic finished them off 2-1 during extra time.
It will be tough for England who looked pretty worn out in their last match, with their man of the moment Kieran Trippier was taken off injured during the game. I think a tired England team will find it even more difficult against a battle-hardened Belgium and will ultimately have to be satisfied with fourth spot in this year’s World Cup competition.
I’m going with a Belgium victory for this one and at 5/4 (2.25) those are definitely decent odds to be playing for it.
