Top of the table clash
Slutsk host Energetik-BGU on Friday in an intriguing match-up in the Belarusian Premier League. Can the home side continue their dream start to the season against strong opposition? Have a read of our preview here:
Three straight wins and flying
Not many would have expected Slutsk to challenge near the top of the table this season but that is exactly what they are doing so far.
They beat Dinamo Minsk on the road last weekend to record their third successive victory and move clear at the top of the table.
It was another impressive display from Vitaliy Pavlov’s side saw them put in the perfect away performance. Despite being outshot 20 to five, they scored the goals required to bag another three points.
The first came after a good team move broke down and midfielder Dramane Salou hit a long-range effort into the bottom corner, a shot which Dinamo keeper Maxim Plotnikov will not want to see again.
The second came at a time when they were under a lot of pressure but broke clear for Abdoul Gafar to net with a cheeky back-heeled finish.
Despite the home side pulling a goal back, Slutsk held on to stay top of the pile.
Energetik bounce back
Energetik-BGU ended a poor run last Friday when they beat Smolevichy by a 2-0 scoreline. It was an important result for the Minsk club after three straight defeats.
They still sit amongst the top sides thanks to their excellent start to the campaign in which they picked up maximum points from their first three matches. This means they start round eight just four points behind leaders Slutsk.
An excellent goal from David Teklo Teklu Tweh (what a name that is!) got them underway and they sealed the win with a late spot-kick.
This weekend will be a tough test for them and it could be one they struggle to overcome.
