Hot Sassuolo host scrapping Genoa
Top of the best of the rest league Sassuolo host Genoa on Wednesday evening, a win for the visitors would be enough to secure Serie A status for next season, they sit four points above the drop in 17th. Roberto De Zerbi’s hosts have been one of the most entertaining sides to watch since the resumption of play and are the sixth highest scorers in the division. It is a tough test for Genoa who host ninth placed Hellas Verona on the final day, where Lecce have a kinder last two facing Udinese and Parma. Sassuolo are narrow favourites with a lot on the line for the Griffin.
Ones to watch
The Black and Greens have some very exciting talents getting attention from all over Europe as the transfer window approaches. Even Pep Guardiola has been to watch and marvel over their prowess in person this campaign. But one of the men not receiving as much of the spotlight is in form striker Francesco Caputo.
A late developer now peaking at 32 Caputo has forged a career being prolific in Serie B, this season proving for the second consecutive campaign that he deserves at the very top of Italian football. He hit 16 goals as an ever present for relegated Empoli last term and has backed it up with 19 goals and seven assists in 2019/20 with two games to spare. Caputo is fourth in the scoring charts above household names such as Edin Dzeko and Josep Ilicic. Outperforming expected goals to finish 19 from chancing equating to 12.99 xG according to Understat.
After failing to hit the heights he was billed up to in his early years at AC Milan, Manuel Locatelli made the switch to Sassuolo for £11.25million, a great investment should the 22-year-old continue to develop at the rate he is. The mainly defensive midfielder has had a career season under De Zerbi, averaging close to 90% for pass completion and adding five assists have put Locatelli on Roberto Mancini’s radar for the senior national team, of which the Italian is coveted in the youth ranks. Locatelli has featured in 31 of the 36 league games this season, proving to the doubters that he is capable of playing a key role in Serie A.
Jeremie Boga is out injured so Domenico Berardi’s attacking flair will take centre stage, the much sought-after winger has been excellent since the resumption of play and has contributed 13 goals and seven assists.
Sassuolo are on fire in attack, were unlucky to have four goals disallowed in defeat to Napoli last time out, Genoa need to be on their game to compete.
