Roma need a win against Juventus in Rome
Roma and Juventus have played out some classic matches over the years but this one could have a real bearing on the title. Can the Giallorossi do a favour for Inter Milan and their city rivals? Have a read of our preview here:
All roads lead to…
When Roma trotted out against Torino, they had only lost once in their last 12 games. The momentum they’d built up during a run that consisted of eight victories had put them in touching distance of their city rivals Lazio and also just a handful of points away from the league leaders.
They would have been massively disappointed, therefore, to see their recent good work undone at home to a Torino side who had struggled to consistently trouble the better teams in Serie A.
The 2-0 defeat leaves Roma desperately needing to bounce back when they face Juventus, who are currently sitting seven points ahead of the Giallorossi and are only second to Inter on goal difference.
There was not much they could do about Andrea Belotti’s stunning opener, but they did have chances to get back into the game, registering an xG of an impressive 3.6. So, not to score was a massive blow.
They will have a to be back at their ruthless best when they take on Juve next weekend and with them being hot on the coattails of their rivals, it is sure to be a great atmosphere at the Stadio Olimpico.
Juve strong as ever
Monday’s 4-0 hammering of Cagliari put Juventus back to the summit of Serie A, a place that they have called home for nearly the entire decade.
The quality they can call upon is better than any other side in the division, even with Inter making a really strong challenge for their crown this season.
Cristiano Ronaldo has hit 13 goals in Serie A this season and his hat-trick against the Sardinians was a reminder of why Juve want to extend his contract with the club.
If you were going to be ultra-critical you could argue they’ve only kept five clean sheets in 2019-20 but with only 17 goals conceded that seems a harsh avenue to take.
They will be confident of getting something against Roma but will know all too well from their previous visit to Rome this season, they can’t take anything for granted.
Roma v Juventus betting tip
Roma know they have to win this one in order to close the gap so will be going all out for the three points. You can see Juve taking advantage as they hope to keep pace with the impressive Inter so backing this one to end in a draw at odds of 5/2 with Betfair feels about right.
