Chelsea yet again too much for Rennes?
French outfit Rennes welcome English giants Chelsea to the Roazhon Park in group E of the Champions league's 4th round of group games. Chelsea lead the group with 7 points whilst Rennes have only managed a single point. Will Chelsea consolidate their lead or will Rennes grab some very important points?
Stade Rennais
The frenchman have not had the best of times in the CL so far kicking it all of with a 1-1 draw at home to Krasnodar and following that up with 2 defeats against both Sevilla and Chelsea. The draw to Krasnodar will have left a bitter feeling but the defeats to Sevilla and Chelsea were hardly surprising.
A lot to play for
In all honesty, Stade Rennais chances of progression from the group look all but gone, both Chelsea and Sevilla are levels ahead of the frenchmen but Rennes still have a lot to play for. If they are to progress to the Europa League, they will need to fight tooth and nail for 3rd. The potential dineros from playing in the Europa League for a team like Rennes are too great to miss out on meaning that they still have everything to play for.
The key fixture will definitely be the reverse fixture in Russia against Krasnodar, however, in order to give themselves the best chance possible, Rennes will do everything possible to avoid destroying their goal difference any further. Easier said than done. Not sure anyone, including any Rennes fans, will be very optimistic regarding their chances of stealing points from Chelsea though.
Chelsea
The blues are currently on a fantastic 10 game unbeaten run and are coming off the back of a very stable win against Newcastle picking up where they left off after the international break.
Another level
Lampard's men are currently joint first place with Sevilla but lead courtesy of a 5 goal advantage. The first game was a tightly contested one against the spaniards which ended 0-0, however, the following 2 games were very lopsided with the blues winning 4-0 in Russia and following that up with a 3-0 drubbing of Rennes on home soil.
Chelsea seemingly never left first gear against both Krasnodar and Rennes and the quality difference between them was extremely visible. Chelsea will want to do everything possible to finish top of the group in order to get the best matchup possible in the next round meaning that they will have to repeat their previous performances.
The blues are currently in great form and are, contrary to many other teams, looking good in the injury department. I expect Chelsea to be far too strong for Rennes.
Betting tip
Chelsea are very obviously the better side with the 3-0 win in the reverse fixture further proving the point which is why i will be backing a Chelsea win at 1.72 with Betway.
