Sociedad to get back on track at home
Real Sociedad look to bounce back from two losses on the trot when they host Real Betis on the Sunday, the visitors have had a poor start to the season particularly away from home and so Imanol Alguacil’s men are slight favourites going into this one. They currently reside in a European qualification spot in La Liga being one of the standout fast starters domestically so far, and with Martin Odegaard taking centre stage after another good international break with Norway this could be an entertaining encounter. Spain had a disappointing week, drawing with Norway and Sweden leaving a lot of La Liga’s players with a point to prove over the next run of fixtures.
Recent form
Sociedad need to keep their early season momentum going after two consecutive losses, and the visit of Betis presents exactly that opportunity. The latter sit precariously above the relegation zone and will need to be well prepared for this match. The hosts have been extremely quick out of the blocks of late, netting the opener inside five minutes in their last two games, losing to Sevilla and Getafe respectively. Betis are yet to win on their travels this term and five out of Sociedad’s last six home games have brought over 2.5 goals.
Key men
Mikel Oyarzabal has four goals and two assists from eight games thus far and looks the hosts’ most dangerous player coming in off the left flank. And he was rewarded with playing time in the Spain national team following the promise he has showed in the early part of this season. Coupled with the talents of Odegaard, Sociedad are sure to create a lot of problems in this Sunday afternoon kick off.
Former Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund defender Marc Bartra will be important if the visitors are to take a positive result in this one, the commanding centre back has great experience and can really add to the blend that they have in the squad. It could be a long season judging by their poor start and so getting the best out of the Spain international is crucial. Nabil Fekir has scored two goals in 2019/20, operating in a number 10 role and off the left wing, he can turn the screw for the visitors.
Real Sociedad will have enough to get past a misfiring Betis who will need to improve quickly if they are to have a successful season.
