Osasuna to blunt high flying Real Madrid
Zinedine Zidane is under pressure despite currently having sailed Real Madrid into second place in La Liga and hosts an unbeaten newly promoted Osasuna on Wednesday evening at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Los Rojillos are tenth at the moment having shocked some with a impressive return of seven points from the opening five matches, Gareth Bale and co will need to perform a lot better than in their crushing 3-0 defeat at the hands of an injury hit Paris Saint-Germain in their opening Champions League game. Real won the last meeting between the two in the 2016/17 season 3-1 at El Sadar with Isco and Lucas Vasquez finding the net in the second period.
Recent form
The Galacticos have the worst defensive record in La Liga’s top six, conceding six times so far. Somewhat struggling as games progress with five of those goals beating their backline in the second half. Wednesday’s visitors have kept three clean sheets already and are unbeaten in their last 16 league outings. Though have only scored four times with Roberto Torres equating for 50% of those strikes.
Positive league start
Zizou has answered the critics so far in La Liga with three wins and two draws, a solid campaign being his initial aim upon retaking over the reigns at the club. An excellent 1-0 win in Seville on Sunday will give the defence some much needed confidence following a tough couple of years domestically. Thibaut Courtois has come under fire since joining from Chelsea in the summer of 2018 but is beginning to establish himself as the top keeper he proved outstandingly in the last World Cup. Karim Benzema has arguably gone unnoticed in stepping up in a big way since the major departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus with 21 La Liga goals in 2018/19 and five already so far, scoring in all but one of his sides’ league encounters.
A win could send Real to the summit of La Liga in an embryonic six match league table, however it feels critical to alleviating some of the pressure on their shoulders after the embarrassment that was the defeat to PSG.
Osasuna will battle hard however Zidane will have too much firepower at his disposal and therefore may go on to top the standings depending on the result between Leganes and Athletic Bilbao.
