Goal-shy Spurs have one eye on the City game
The two bottom teams in Group B, PSV and Spurs will face each other this week in the third round of Champions League group-stage fixtures. I believe that the travelling team will very much have their eye on this weekend's Premier League match against Manchester City and we will not see the free-flowing goal-fest that the bookies are predicting.
PSV
PSV are running away with the Erdivisie this year; they currently sit in first place, with the maximum number of points from nine matches. The goals are pouring in, with a 3-0 win over Ajax at home and a 6-0 dismantling of Emmen over the weekend. However, as you know the Dutch domestic league is not the Champions League and the likes of De Jong and Lozano won't find it as easy to find the back of the net against the North London team.
Spurs
It's hard to know where you have Spurs at the moment. Their 1-0 win over West Ham was needed to keep their top-four ambitions alive but it provided little answer for those of us trying to work out if this is a team back in-form. In the Champions League they've not performed well, with losses against Inter and Barça, add to this the fact that Alli and Eriksen will miss this match and it doesn't look good for them. It is not just the midfield that will suffer from Eriksen's (and to some extent Alli's) absence, but Kane will be lacking his main source of assists. A 1-0 win over West Ham and Cardiff City is no evidence that Pochettino has his men back on a roll. What he can't complain about however is the solidity of this defence in the Premier League. Three clean sheets is not something you should take lightly. What the big question is here is - can you really back Spurs for the win? What is giving me a bit of dilemma is the fact that they will be facing Manchester City at home over the weekend - but on the other hand this is their last chance to really challenge Inter Milan in the their Champions League group.
Betting tip
Here I think we will see a goal-shy spurs continue to play as they have done, strong in defence but not offering much offensively. PSV may be scoring for fun in the Eridivisie but this is a much tougher task. I'm not going to pick a side here, but rather go for an under 3 goals Asian handicap at odds of 77/100 with Bethard.
