Marseille to capitalise on PSG injury list?

Paris Saint-Germain FC welcome arch rivals Marseille to the Parc des Princes in the seasons first Le Classique. PSG fell to a lowly defeat in their first game whilst Marseille got away with a very narrow victory but who will emerge victorious on Sunday?

Paris Saint-German FC

The Parisians fell to newcomers Lens with 1-0 last Thursday following their defeat in the Champions League final only 3 weeks ago. One would think that it could potentially be down to a simple hangover and lack of preparation time but the real culprit is Covid-19.

Incredible injury-list

Marquinhos, Neymar, Di Maria, Mbappe, Paredes, Keylor Navas and Icardi were all diagnosed with Covid and missed the first game against Lens and are also set to miss out on the Marseille game. Basically PSG's whole forward setup is missing which is an unprecedented issue to have at the start of a season, or at any other time at all for that matter.

Hard without the heavy hitters

Thomas Tuchel's men enjoyed 80% possession against Lens but given the fact that every single forward was missing, clinical finishing as well as plain experience was no where to be seen in the final third. Considering that Marseille are miles better than Lens, Sunday's meeting could potentially end with PSG losing their first 2 games of a season in.. i don't know how long but most probably a ridiculously long time.

Marseille

André Villas-Boas and co. kicked off the season in positive fashion with a 2-3 win over Brest. A win is a win but the victory was far from convincing and considering the fact that Les Olympiens fielded their absolute strongest XI their is a lot of room for improvement.

A lot of potential

Marseille boast a very strong squad and their second place last season further proves the quality they have. However, they are now faced with a very unique situation where their biggest competitor will be forced to play without 8 of their best players for a substantial amount of time.

Basically, Marseille find themselves in some what of a now or never moment and have to do everything possible to build up an insurmountable lead over PSG in the table so the Parisians simply cannot catch up.

Betting tip

Due to the state of PSG's squad and the quality Marseille possess i will be backing Marseille to draw or win at 2.10 with Betway.
