Poland vs. Slovakia
Poland and Slovakia face off in group e's first game in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Will Poland with superstar Lewandowski at the helm outmanoeuvre Slovakia and put themselves in prime position within a difficult group or will Marek Hamsik's Slovakia prove the bookies wrong and end up on top?
Poland
The Polish have had somewhat of a rough buildup to the euros after drawing against both Russia and Iceland, whilst losing to England back in March. In fact, Poland have only won one of their last seven games, against Andorra, meaning they have a lot to prove come Monday.
However, with Robert Lewandowski in the lineup, anything is possible. Despite winning only one of their last seven, Poland have managed to score in each of their last six, often against opposition better than Slovakia.
There has been talk that Poland could be in trouble due to them losing both of their backup strikers but as long as Lewandowski stays both injury, and Covid-free, Poland will be optimistic when going forward.
Slovakia
The Slovak's, like the Polish, enter the Euro's on the back of draws against both Austria, and Bulgaria, whilst defeating the Russians prior to that. However, prior to the win against Russia, Slovakia drew to the likes of Malta and Cyprus in less than convincing displays.
Slovakia's goal difference of 5-4 in their last five, against, for the most part, poor opponents perfectly showcases the difficulties they have in front of the oppositions goal. Now that they will be up against better opponents, they will really have to step it up, especially in the oppositions half where the return of captain Hamsik may prove vital for this Slovakia side.
Betting tip
Poland are lethal going forward, that much is certain. Their defence on the other hand has been subpar, whilst Slovakia have a very hard time going forward but defend very well. With these factors in mind, i recommend Poland or draw & under 2.5 goals at 1.83 with Betway.
