Do or die for Parma
Deep in the drop zone doo doo, Parma play host to Bologna on Sunday, looking to end a terrible run of 12 matches without a win. The hosts were excellent, finishing 11th in their second season since promotion from Serie B last term, but with star loanee Dejan Kulusevski picked up by Juventus, the Crusaders now have the worst attacking contingent in the division and must stop the rot if they are to get out of trouble. Sinisa Mihajlovic’s men arrive as favourites, as they look to push back into mid table having slipped down to 15th in recent weeks. The visitors look the better side but have been found wanting defensively of late.
Process
The reinstated Roberto D’Aversa looks as if he is guiding the club back into the second tier and their underlying data leads me to that conclusion. Parma have scored just 14 goals all season, a league low, from 17.5 expected goals, an underperformance but still the worst in the league for quality of chances created. Their rearguard is better, conceding 38 from 33 expected, ranking 14th for expected goals against. The Red and Blues have a strong process compared to the teams around them, they have scored 25 from 27 expected and conceded 35 from 35 expected. The figures are sustainable, giving them room to improve and climb the table in the second half of the season. A run of one win in 11 has them looking over their shoulders.
Goals?
I can see this one being goal heavy. Serie A has been all season and with this match a huge one for the hosts, they may go hell for leather for all three points. Bologna are leaky at the back and can hurt the scrappers going forward, it is must win for the hosts.
- Parma have scored in three of 10.
- Parma have conceded in nine of 10.
- Parma have seen both teams score in three of 10.
- Parma have seen over 2.5 goals in five of 10.
- Bologna have scored in seven of 10.
- Bologna have conceded in eight of 10.
- Bologna have seen both teams score in six of 10.
- Bologna have seen over 2.5 goals in five of 10.
I am excited for this one, maybe some unfashionable teams but Serie A has been great viewing this season, I expect this game to be no different.
