The Sounders' poor away form to continue
Two teams comfortably inside the playoff places in their respective conferences face off in a cross conference clash looking for their first win this June. The hosts are six points clear in the playoffs, sitting fifth however with a goal difference of -8, they have also played more matches than every team below them in the Eastern Conference, so it is very important Rémi Garde’s side get a positive result in this one. The Sounders are better placed in the Western Conference with eight points separating them from the chasing pack.
Seattle’s poor away form
The West coast side have not fared well on their travels of late, a run that has seen them fail to win in their last six (3D, 3L), they have also only scored first in one match on the road all season. They have only managed five goals in those six matches, so this game presents itself as an opportunity to get back on track. Goals has been an issue however 28-year-old Peruvian Raul Ruidiaz has three in his last three starts giving the side hope of pulling off this scalp though his strikes have both been in defeat.
Saputo Stadium a fortress?
Impact have only lost two matches at home since last July, winning seven consecutively without conceding in that run and therefore will come into the game as favourites. They welcomed back Victor Cabrera from injury on Saturday against Orlando City though they started terribly and were 3-0 at half time which was how it ended. So it will be interesting to see if Garde changes it up in defence. The Sounders have not won at the Saputo since 2014, losing 1-0 and playing out a 2-2 draw on their last visit, Montreal also won away to Seattle last season though they still failed to make the playoffs that year.
A tight game ahead
Only one of the last six matches between these two has brought more than 2.5 goals with both teams getting on the scoresheet in just one of those six as well. However, both teams have found the net in eight of Seattle’s last ten MLS fixtures. A win for Seattle could see them creep into second in the Western Conference as this is their game in hand on LA Galaxy who currently take up that spot. Impact could rise to third though a win would be more in the aim of consolidating their position in the playoffs than chasing first-place with them having played so much more than the teams around them.
Montreal Impact to get their home form back on track and narrowly get past the Sounders in a tentative encounter.
