Cagey cup semi awaits
There is another Manchester derby this Wednesday evening with the two clubs meeting in the League Cup for the second successive year. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has seen a change in responses, having led the club to second place in the Premier League. After an impressive dismantling of Chelsea at the weekend, Manchester City come in as unsurprising favourites, they raced into a 3-0 lead in the first half and really could have scored more. Pep Guardiola’s men have been excellent in the League Cup in recent years and despite Solskjaer’s urge to win his first trophy the Cityzens will be just as hungry to retain their crown.
Goals?
My main angle is the match is to go for unders. The last fixture between these two was 0-0, Man City have statistically the best defence in the Premier League, furthermore to fixture congestion has led to more lower scoring matches, so it is an obvious play. United’s best bet if they are to conquer City is to play on the counter, just as Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City did successfully in the league.
- United have scored in nine of 10.
- United have conceded in seven of 10.
- United have seen both teams score in seven of 10.
- United have seen over 2.5 goals in seven of 10.
- City have scored in eight of 10.
- City have conceded in three of 10.
- City have seen both teams score in three of 10.
- City have seen over 2.5 goals in four of 10.
A lot of those overs games for the Red Devils have been when some complacency have crept in during positive results. They were impressive in knocking out Everton with a 2-0 win in the last round, but still produced an unders result. With this fixture being one leg where it would usually be two, it could be more cautious and cagey.
There is no doubt that City are the more attractive and better footballing side however given United’s strong midfield and occasionally defensive unit, when they show up, they have proven they can beat City on a consistent basis in the last couple of seasons.

Had to sweat for the last 10, but with a goalless first half this one came in nicely. 2-0 City, they will meet Spurs in the final.
