Mainz and Hoffenheim to be a cagey affair
Hoffenheim could have a big say over which division Mainz will be playing in next season. Will the Bundesliga strugglers be able to make a crowdless home advantage count? Have a read of our preview here:
Mainz remain in trouble
This campaign has been a real struggle for Mainz and even if that is not really surprising, they will be hoping there is enough talent in their squad to finish outside the bottom three this season.
The big positive of the campaign has been the form of Swedish forward Robin Quaison who has enjoyed an excellent campaign despite his side’s struggles.
He has netted 12 goals and has been one of the only bright lights on this team. The problems they have faced were exposed for all to see last weekend when an out of form RB Leipzig smashed five past them on their own soil.
The have to face a trip to Union Berlin in mid-week, a game which could be vital to their survival chances, but don’t expect them to find much joy against Hoffenheim who, despite not playing that well this season, are solid enough.
Hoffenheim playing for pride
With the only feasible prize left on the table for Hoffenheim being a Europa League place and an outside chance at that, there is relatively little to play for for Alfred Schreuder’s team.
Despite that, they could still play an important role at both ends of the table this season, starting with their game against Mainz on Saturday.
The problem for Hoffenheim is that, at the time of writing, they have not won a game since 01 February and although they will be hoping to beat fellow mid-table side Koln in mid-week, their form in general has been very disappointing.
Their key men this season have been Andrej Kramaric and Sargis Adamyan who have netted 13 goals between them this season and combined for another three assists.
In what has been an underwhelming season for Hoffenheim, no player has really stood out and Mainz will be hoping they can secure a win that will see them move more comfortably ahead of the bottom three.
Mainz v Hoffenheim betting tip
With Hoffenheim showing poor and inconsistent form the home side will be desperate to secure a big three points in this one. It is hardly likely to be a high scoring game so we are backing both teams to score NO, at odds of 2.6 with Betfair in this one.
