LAFC to get back on track against reigning champs
After losing out in a brilliant El Trafico derby, Los Angeles FC look to regain their momentum at the top of the Western Conference in taking on Atlanta United at the Banc of California Stadium. The reigning MLS Cup champions currently sit second in the Eastern Conference and are in fine form of late however they have been poor away from home so far this season. The last meeting between these two was a crushing win for Atlanta, 5-0 with prolific Venezuelan attacker, Josef Martinez getting himself a goal, the joint-second league top scorer will be looking to impress in this high-quality matchup.
Recent form
LAFC are holders of the only remaining unbeaten home record in MLS this season and have scored in both halves in 15 out of their 21 league fixtures this term. However, the highflyers have not managed a clean sheet in their last four home matches. Current form favours LA with Atlanta having only recorded 9 of their 36 points on the road, and they are prone to a slow start having conceded the first goal of the contest in 70% of away trips in 2019. Having said that they will be optimistic and full of confidence, having dispatched DC United and Houston Dynamo two and five goals to nil respectively in their last two games. The 5-0 win for United in the only ever previous meeting between these two franchises will have little bearing on this match with LAFC enjoying an incredible season, I would expect their defeat to LA Galaxy to be nothing more than minor blip.
Josef Martinez
Since returning from Copa America duty, Martinez has been a revelation. Last season’s top scorer with 31 league goals, the number seven has seven goals in his last five appearances, finding the net in every single one, and with positive memories against this opposition, he is certainly one to watch. A battle in the scoring charts once more as current MLS top scorer, Carlos Vela will strut his stuff fresh off a brace in his last outing.
Back on track
If it was not for some outstanding finishing and an all-round complete performance from Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the LA derby, LAFC may have capped an excellent win and Atlanta’s attack, though still one of the strongest in the competition, does not boast anywhere near as much talent as Galaxy’s. Therefore, the hosts will be able to readjust and continue their breath-taking goalscoring prowess to get an important win on Saturday.
The best team in this years’ MLS so far will get back to winning ways against an Atlanta United side who are struggling away from home and with Carlos Vela in town there are goals guaranteed for Bob Bradley’s men.

A crazy six goal first half saw LAFC lead 4-2 and come through eventual 4-3 winners. Always entertaining when they take to the field.
