Derby della capitale bragging rights to Lazio
Roma and Lazio face each other in the first Derby della Capitale of the season on Sunday after taking on the sides from Genoa to kick off their campaigns. Who will come out with the bragging rights? Have a read of our preview here:
Lazio’s demolition job on day one
You can’t deny that Roma are the bigger of the two sides based on the support they receive but it was Lazio that got off to a flyer in Genoa on the opening day. They beat Sampdoria 3-0 but, in truth, could have had six or seven such was the ineptitude of the home side’s defending.
One man that capitalised was Ciro Immobile who netted a brace in a match where he could have got himself a double hat-trick. His movement and incisive runs where very impressive and left the Samp defence in all sorts of trouble. If it was not for a fine goalkeeping display by Audero this one could have become embarrassing for Di Francesco’s side.
As it was, Simone Inzaghi will have been delighted with the ease of which his team picked up their first three points of the season and they will no go into the derby with Roma full of confidence.
Roma caught napping at the back
There is clearly no problem with the Giallorossi going forward as they demonstrated against Genoa on the opening day but at the back the loss of Kostas Manolas has left a Greek shaped hole that needs filling quickly.
Last season Genoa were not a particularly good side yet they managed to catch Roma fairly easily in the 3-3 draw at the Olympico. The back four on day one consisted of centre-back pairing Fazio and Juan which is a scary thought for a side hoping to make it into the Champions League places this season.
The short comings we so apparent that it is hard to know where they should go next. There is no depth in that position and it is hard to see a replacement arriving.
On the plus side, the performance of Cengiz Under was hugely encouraging. He scored a superb opener and nearly netted a second in the first half while Edin Dzeko reminded everyone why Inter were keen on landing his signature this summer.
They will be a threat going forward against Lazio but at the back is where they could come unstuck.
Lazio v Roma betting tip
Given the impressive display on the opening day from Lazio it is highly plausible that they will continue in that vein against Roma so backing the Biancocelesti to win at odds of 27/20 is our tip here.
