Celtic to be outclassed in Rome
The Scottish champions and Group E leaders travel to Italy and the spectacle of the Stadio Olimpico to face a bang in form Lazio side who are in need of a victory having been drawn in one of the toughest groups in the Europa League. The Romans have been on the wrong end of a 2-1 scoreline twice on their travels in the group stage and on the right side of it in their only home game against Stade Rennes who are currently in last place. They are firm favourites for this encounter following their recent hot streak in Serie A and should the White and Sky Blues transfer that prowess into this competition they will be a force to be reckoned with.
Recent form
Since defeat at Celtic Park Simone Inzaghi’s men have turned over Fiorentina, Torino and AC Milan back to back with ease. The highlight being the dispatching of Torino by four goals to nil with usual suspect Ciro Immobile grabbing a brace. Lazio have a nice home game with Lecce after this clash and therefore it will be their main priority especially due to their poor start to the campaign sitting third in the group behind CFR Cluj and Thursday’s visitors.
Key men
Former Sevilla man Joaquin Correa has been vital to the hosts’ success of late playing up front with Immobile in a 3-5-2 formation. The 25-year-old has four goals from 11 appearances so far but three in his last five which is no coincidence to the White and Sky Blues’ upturn in form.
Precocious Serbian midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has performed admirably in 2019/20 without setting the world alight in front of goal, he has produced two goals and four assists from 12 outings. The tall midfielder should dominate the centre of the pitch in this match, coming up against experienced campaigners like Scott Brown. However, Neil Lennon is sure to set up his team to be difficult to beat and their pace on the counterattack could hurt the Italian side.
Then there is the finished article finisher, the one world class player on show, Ciro Immobile. The talisman is 7/10 to score at anytime with Betway and is likely to be right at the top of the scoring charts when we get to the latter stages of the competition.
Lazio will raise their European game to above Celtic’s level and rip up the Group E current standings with a dominant display at the Stadio Olimpico.
