Houston Dynamo to get back to winning ways at home
Desperately out of form franchise, Chicago Fire travel to another side struggling for a win in Houston Dynamo, in a cross-conference clash at the BBVA Stadium. Both sides are currently outside the playoff places and need some inspiration as we enter the business end of the season, the hosts sit in ninth place while Chicago are looking over their shoulders in 11th. With their strong home form over the course of the season, Houston come into this one as slight favourites with both teams looking to kick on with a win.
Recent form
Dynamo have lost their last two home games after going unbeaten in their first 10 home fixtures of the 2019 season. Furthermore, they have only registered seven points from the last 33 available. Similarly, Fire have only won once in their last 12 outings, losing eight and drawing three, averaging a very modest 0.73 goals per game on the road. Both teams have got on the scoresheet in 75% of Dynamo’s home games seven of the last 10 head-to-head encounters have seen a goal for each side. Houston have won the last two meetings and there has been a fast start in the last three, with the opening goal coming within the first five minutes.
Key players
Orange Crush will be pleased to welcome back their most effective player this campaign back from suspension for this match. Alberth Elis has had a direct hand in 14 goals so far this season, seven goals and assists have seen the Honduran be a great outlet for Wilmer Cabrera’s side. He bagged a brace in his sides last home win, their 4-0 demolition of New York Red Bulls, and he provides pace and creativity out wide that will provide a boost for top scorer Mauro Manotas. Chicago Fire on the other hand are still very reliant on CJ Sapong for goals, he has nine for the season but has not found the net in his last three. A very experienced MLS campaigner, he will make his presence known up against the Dynamo defence that has been fragile in recent weeks. With Nicolas Gaitan looking out of sorts lately it will be a tough ask for the Fire to come away with anything from this match.
Houston Dynamo will resume their good home form with a win against a poor Chicago Fire side, and reignite their playoff hopes.
