Draw specialists RB Leipzig to remain frustrated
RB Leipzig were once considered the team to challenge Bayern Munich for the title, however, they have faded badly. Can they have one last hurrah as they take on Hoffenheim this weekend? Have a read of our preview here:
Hoffenheim keeping European dream alive
Julian Nagelsmann will be returning to his old stomping ground on Friday when he takes his Leipzig side back to Hoffenheim. He is clearly a superb coach and under his guidance Hoffenheim punched well above their weight.
He should be welcomed back, but with both sides still looking for vital points the niceties will stop there.
Hoffenheim have done well to keep alive their chances of nailing down a place in Europe for next season. They currently sit in sixth place although that could change with Wolfsburg still to play at Bremen at the time of writing.
It is only a Europa League place realistically up for grabs for Alfred Schreuder’s men. They are 13 points outside the last Champions League spot so have no chance of appearing in that competition next season.
Last time out they drew with struggling Fortuna Dusseldorf, a team fighting for their lives at the bottom, and this was their seventh stalemate of the campaign.
Moanes Dabour and Steven Zubar scored the goals in a game played with 10 men for 81 minutes after Benjamin Hubner was given his marching orders inside 10 minutes.
Back to the drawing board for RB Leipzig
RB Leipzig’s title bid has disappeared as quickly as banker when it is time to pay the bill at a restaurant. They have faded badly and it has been hard to watch, especially when there was such hope about them preventing Bayern winning yet another title.
Julian Nagelsmanns has struggled to find the winning formula, this has been compounded by the break in action caused by the COVID pandemic.
The draw at home to bottom club Paderborn really summed up their current struggles and means they have now drawn seven of their last 11 matches and a league-high 11 all season.
Travelling to Hoffenheim will not be easy and we could well see another stalemate on Friday night.
